About Bob and the Depot

The depot is a place where the tracks meet, a place of arrivals and departures, an ever-changing community of highs, lows, fronts and the folks that delight or deal with them daily.

The stationmaster at the Vermont Weather Depot is freelance forecaster Bob Minsenberger. Yankee Magazine, in a special issue on New England weather, dubbed him “The Weatherman of Hollister Hill”. He has been reporting on Vermont weather for over 23 years on his phone-in WeatherWatch service and on local radio stations: The Point, WSKI, and WGDR.

For three years he and his partner, Dorothy Wallace, published the Green Mountain Barometer—weather features, facts & folklore. Bob has spoken to numerous community groups, from the Boy Scouts to classes at UVM. In addition to Yankee Magazine, he has been featured in articles in such publications as the Boston Globe and the Times Argus, The Burlington Free Press, and Yankee Books New England’s Disastrous Weather.

The Depot is truly a Mom and Pop operation. This means several things. We are not going to try to be the most technical or up-to-the-second weather site. We aim to be informative and entertaining in a relaxed fashion. We want to have fun with the site too, and not get overwhelmed.

We invite your participation in the form of short pieces on our weather/climate, be it commentary, remembrances, or short verse, or by selling your crafts through our store.
